It is part of Community Service Volunteers (CSV) Make a Difference Day, the UK’s single biggest day of volunteering which will take place on October 25.

Individuals are being encouraged to organise flashmobs with friends, colleagues and others, to gather spontaneously in public places to pick up litter, stand motionless for a few minutes, paint over graffiti or even sing a song in order to highlight a cause or make a difference to their communities.

This campaign is being championed by Multi Olympic Medal Winner and TV presenter, Kriss Akabusi.

Simon Tiller from CSV Make a Difference Day said: “The concept is about getting the public’s attention for causes that matter. Within the blink of an eye, we hope quiet public areas suddenly fill with a multitude of people keen to engage in something positive. We want to put a purpose into the idea of flashmobs.”

A free guide will be provided to anyone who registers their project with CSV Make a Difference Day, which will include useful information on ways to organise a flashmob safely; through word of mouth, text messages, and through social networking sites. It also gives tips on how to get noticed.
